5 Kitchen Trends for 2018
Looking to upgrade your kitchen this year? We have the top 5 ideas that kitchen designers and manufacturers are telling us will be hot in the coming year. With something here for everyone, if you want to make a style statement in the kitchen, take a look at the list.
#5 Blue and Green Cabinets
Coloured cabinetry is always a dubious choice for some designers suggesting that colour should be kept to the walls and floor. Others say be bold! And in the fifth spot on our list is the prediction that when it comes to coloured kitchen cabinets, blue and green hold the key.
This isn’t about mixing the colours – choose either a moody green or a dramatic navy for your new kitchen and you are on to a winner.
#4 Ultra Violet
It is no wonder that in fourth position with have Pantone’s colour of the year, ultra violet. Purple is a regal colour and this shade certainly packs a majestic punch. It is a colour that is popular in turbulent times, mainly because it is the colour of mindfulness and spirituality.
If you don’t fancy a purple kitchen, you can use it for accessories, but we think walls painted in this colour will make a fantastic backdrop for when you create delicious culinary delights.
#3 Coloured countertops
Halfway through the list and we come across the prediction that coloured worktops will be high on the list of priorities for homeowners this year. Once, black granite type worktops were the must-have feature but there are hints that a worthy colour is the dark moodiness and majesty of purple. Will it take off? We aren’t so sure but leading manufacturers and brands are gearing up to create coloured worktops that add zing and zest to the kitchen.
#2 Mix and match
Nearly in the top spot is the mixing and matching of lighter colours in the kitchen and ditching the monochrome look. For those who like a traditional kitchen, or are opting for the rustic look, mixing colours such as sage green with warm cream on cabinets is a must have. Keep the handles minimal in detail and opt for wooden floors and worktops too, if you want to keep the look as rustic or farmhouse charming as possible.
#1 High contrast marble
It may be a surprise but marble in high contrast colour – no milky marbling here! – is in number one spot. For many of us, this will bring back memories of kitchens from our childhoods in which brown and reams were the order of the day.
Keeping it modern with sleek design and finish on the cabinets, tiling and flooring, it just may be possible to pull off this look. If marble isn’t in the price range, don’t forget that concrete can be treated and patterned so that it takes on the look of other materials, marble included. Polished concrete works well as worktops too.
Some surprising trends predicted for the kitchen in 2018 but which ones will we really see?
