2017 Decorating Trends We Are NOT Taking into 2018!
Trends come and go. Some are popular, a great hit with homeowners but there are also other decorating trends that were nothing more than a fad. With the New Year on the doorstep, there are many articles that are telling us what we should be doing in terms of interior design in the coming months. But what decorating trends are we leaving behind?
We took a look at 5 decorating habits that we can wave goodbye too…
#1 Everything white
Linked with the minimalist interior design style, everything for a while was painted a fresh, crisp white. It has its upside – light and bright – but there were downsides too. It can be clinical and characterless, and certainly not practical for the busy family home.
Love it or hate it, you can now ditch the all-white look and opt for bold colours instead. And there are plenty of options – just take a look at the colour schemes from Pantone.
#2 Ditch mid-century modern
Mid-century modern was popular and no wonder: clean lines matched by elegance, it is the perfect style for creating capsule, cohesive look for the home. The problem is that it is now a look favoured by so many, including popular TV shows etc. that it has started to look a little dated.
Clearly, replacing all your furniture stretches your household budget beyond its normal realms so if do one thing this year, it should be softening the look with other pieces, especially furniture that has age to it.
#3 Super-minimalism
In the pages of glossy magazine, the living room with the polished concrete floor and minimally styled chairs may look great but like most things, when it comes to practical applications, this is no fun as a living room.
Soften the room with texture, add throws and cushions, rugs and more. Your house is a home, not a museum.
#4 Word art
We have all seen them – glittery B A T H or coloured C O O K letters for various rooms in the home. But, let’s honest, they looked chic on the shelf in the store but back home, they were nothing more than dust catchers.
You don’t need block lettering, wooden or sparkling or otherwise, to remind you what you should be doing in a room. Wave goodbye to word art!
#5 Being a slave to design and style
From the rustic style to the shabby chic, there are all kinds of trends that come and go. Magazines and online websites carry fantastic photos of people – celebrities and ‘normal’ people – living in what looks like show homes.
Whilst it looks great fun, designers are telling us that 2018 should be the year that we relax with design, take what we like from schemes and styles so that when we live in our homes, they work for us.
So, if you want an all-white kitchen with wooden letters that say E A T, then go for it. Or, if you want a living room full of cushions and throws, opt for that too. 2018 decorating trends are all about you, your home and how you live in it?
