10 Spring Cleaning Tips

We’re all about making the best of the home and now that the fug of winter has passed, we can’t wait for spring to really get going! And that means spring cleaning the home. So what tips do the team have for you?

Spring Cleaning

#1 De-clutter first

There is no point attempting to deep clean any room until you have got rid of things that don’t need to be there. Be brave and donate and recycle things that you don’t use or get rid of things that are broken.

#2 Soft furnishings - dry clean, spot clean, wash

When you have a dry, breezy day, get cushions covers in the wash and take down curtains ready for dry cleaning or washing. If you have Venetian blinds, use a fabric cleaning tool to knock away dust, using a spot cleaner for more stubborn marks. Fabric vertical blinds can be taken down and cleaned by soaking in a mild solution of fabric conditions in warm water in a bath. Allow to dry on the line.

#3 Work from the top down

If you have dusted and cleaned your room and then decide to knock the dust off the ceiling pendant light, you are undoing all your hard work!

#4 Don't forget the fridge and freezer

As the warm weather arrives, our eating habits change and that means it is the perfect time to defrost and clean the freezer, as well as the fridge.

#5 Clean those windows (on a cloudy day)

Cleaning windows is no one’s favourite job and deciding to do it on a bright day means you can miss all kinds of streaks and marks. Opt for a cloudy spring day and clean them in and out!

#6 Get your storage sorted

Whether it is hallway clutter or lack of suitable storage solutions for the living room, storage is part of your spring clean. When you have decluttered, you will have a better idea of things that need to find somewhere permanent to be stored.

#7 The dreaded oven clean

All those casseroles and pies may have been tasty over winter but its made a mess of the oven. The heart of the kitchen, you need our oven to be clean. First, remove the shelves and place in a large bowl of warm water with a solution of oven cleaner or washing up liquid.

Using an oven cleaner that is right for your oven, begin the oven clean starting with the sides and then very bottom shelf. Always read the label and make sure you wear gloves.

Clean off the shelves and allow to dry before using.

#8 The mattress

With piles of warm bedding, your bed has been a cosy haven on cold, winter nights but now is the time to give the bedding and the mattress not only a good airing but a thorough vacuuming too.

Using a nozzle on your vacuum, make sure you get in the corners of the mattress. If you need to, flip the mattress too but not all mattresses need turning.

#9 Freshen the rugs

As well as giving the rugs a thorough vacuum, hang them on the line for airing too. Dust mites and the like prefer warm, humid carpets and rugs thus exposing them to a spring breeze will see them scuttle off somewhere else!

#10 Delegate and reward

Don’t forget to hand out tasks but don’t forget to reward yourselves after all your hard work too!
